My reaction to second round picks
Round 2 of the NFL Draft is complete - which teams won and lost?
The second round of the NFL Draft is complete.
Here is my reaction to the best - and worst - picks.
33. Cleveland Browns – Carson Schwesinger - LB
👎️ The Browns needed help on offense. Instead, they added a linebacker with the first pick in the second round. Perhaps this is a signal that Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah is not returning after his neck injury? If so, I get the attempt to replace him, but this seems like a reach.
35. Seattle Seahawks (TRADE) - Nick Emmanwori, S
❤️ ❤️ Mike Macdonald turned Kyle Hamilton into a weapon with Baltimore. He now has his guy in Seattle. Emmanwori was knocked in scouting reports for not having a clear position, which is where Macdonald likely sees value. Is the ceiling as high as Hamilton? Likely not. But putting Emmanwori in the defensive backfield with Woolen and Witherspoon is a scary proposition for opposing offenses.
36. Cleveland Browns – Quinshon Judkins - RB
👎️ I did not see many with Judkins rated higher than Henderson who was still on the board at the time of this pick. Can’t argue with the Browns adding an offensive weapon, but this sounds like the lesser of the two Ohio State backs.
39. Chicago Bears – Luther Burden III, WR
❤️ Yesterday I said there are no longer excuses for Caleb Williams after the addition of Colston Loveland. Tonight is a double down on that statement. The addition of Burden gives Williams a weapon out of the slot that was argued by many to be first round worthy. Great pick.
36. New Orleans Saints – Tyler Shough, QB
👎️ I viewed the Saints handling of the last couple weeks as an indication they would be pursuing a quarterback in 2026. Whether that be Arch Manning, or new Saints OC Doug Nussmeier’s son, Garrett Nussmeier. Does this now begin the rebuild, or is this an attempt to be competitive now? Where do Rattler or Haener fit in if Carr elects to have surgery?
42. NY Jets – Mason Taylor, TE
👍️ I like that Aaron Glenn continues to keep a low profile and address clear needs. In 2023 during his previous full season, Justin Fields targeted tight ends at the 15th highest rate in the league and was 12th in ANY/A when throwing at TE’s. Taylor’s route running strengths finally give the Jets an option over the middle of the field. He must improve as a run blocker though to succeed in the Fields led offense.
47. Arizona – Will Johnson, CB
❤️❤️ This is a gamble, but has a big potential payoff. Johnson was mocked by respected sources as high as 13th. Injury concerns made him slide. If Arizona has info others do not and get a healthy Johnson, this is a steal. I love everything the Cardinals are doing rebuilding this defense and think they can contend for the playoffs in 2025.
59. Baltimore Ravens – Mike Green, EDGE
❤️ This is an Eagles-esque steal. Character concerns dropped Green from mid first round to the Ravens in the tail end of the second round. The maturity of the Ravens coaching staff and veteran loaded front seven is a great landing spot for Green who has big pass rush upside.
63. Kansas City Chiefs – Omar Norman Lott, DT
👍️ Lott led the nation for defensive tackles in pass rush win rate last season with Tennessee. Who better to pair him with than Chris Jones, who led the NFL in pass rush win rate at the position. Great fit, and now a dominant duo in the middle for the Chiefs.
